In this exercise, you are given 45 minutes to prepare a legal document or part of one, often simulating what a solicitor would do in day-to-day practice in the context of Business Law and Practice, Criminal Practice, Dispute Resolution, Property Practice, or Wills and the Administration of Estates. The format may vary as you might be required to draft from scratch, amend an existing draft, or work from a precedent.
Legal drafting differs from legal writing in its formality and purpose. While legal writing typically involves letters or emails aimed at explaining or negotiating legal issues, legal drafting centres on constructing the legal instruments that define the parties’ rights, duties, and obligations.
